Reposting this as a standalone as per request, because another shipper in the Steven Universe fandom was suicide baited by “anti blogs” and is currently unresponsive on social media.
This is the fourth time that I am aware of in the Steven Universe fandom that these so called “anti-shippers” have done this.
The fourth time.
They are bullying people to suicide over fictional fucking cartoon ships.
They’ll try to wash their hands of it again. It wasn’t them, they’ll say, or they’ll shed crocodile tears over the safety of the missing person.
ALL of you hate blogs contributed to this. ALL of you “antis” are abusers.
ABUSERS.
I don’t give two fucks if weh, you are a survivor.
YOU HAVE BECOME ABUSERS YOURSELVES, CONGRATULATIONS.
Fucking stop, because reality will come down very quickly on your thick skulls and no, your precious fictional characters will not shield you from the authorities. If you really give a shit, delete your fucking hate blogs and get help before you KILL SOMEONE OVER A GODDAMN CARTOON.
For those following me for my Overwatch art, be warned that these shitheads are already trying this shit in the OW fandom, taking character names for anti-shipping blogs there. Do not let them turn that fandom into a fucking pit too. Please.

“Fiction affects reality”, is what the so-called “anti-shippers”
always say. The thing there is, if fiction affects reality in the
absolute way they claim–which they typically “source” with studies that
have nothing to do with that statement at all–why are there any problems in the world? Does the the children’s programming we watched when we were young not magically solve them all?
No, because people have their own agency.
Decisions to harm others are the individual’s responsibility, not a
character’s, not a show’s, not a book’s, and sure as hell not a fandom
ship’s. The alarming habit they’ve developed of attacking mostly other
minors with accusations of terrible crimes, collecting “receipts” on
them, running hateblogs to torment them, does FAR more damage than a
work of fiction. The rise in suicide attempts among creatives in certain
fandoms is directly the result of this abuse. And make no mistake, what
the anti-shippers do is textbook abuse. That some of them are survivors
is not a free damn pass, we all have the chance of becoming abusers
ourselves. I’m a survivor also, and I haven’t felt so backed in a corner
since my abuser was still in my life, as I did coming under fire from
them. (For a bisexual headcanon. A bi woman, with a bisexual headcanon?
YOU DON’T SAY.)
They only ever briefly show regret when the
spotlight is on their abusive behavior, when someone almost kills
themselves because of them and their rabid obsession of ships they don’t
like. “God, I hope they’re okay” they said, more than once, wringing
their pearls, when they did not give a shit about the person they
tormented to the limit until the moment that THEY were in trouble for
doing so.
And when they are confronted for it, boohoo, suddenly they’re being attacked.
It needs to stop before one of these suicide attempts is successful.
A lot of them advocate self-diagnosis, looking at their Abouts and
whatnot. Which is whatever, you know yourself best, your choice. But
just like they claim a psychologist isn’t qualified to diagnose them,
what makes them think they are qualified to diagnose strangers on the
internet?
“Because I don’t like thing” seems to be their answer, and it’s a piss-poor one.
All
this, over fiction. The only “fiction affects reality” that I see are
these people becoming bullies in a fictional ship’s name, and that is
still all on them, not the fiction they are crusading for.
You can dislike seeing some things, it’s natural. I’m uncomfortable with any ship involving Overwatch’s
Widowmaker, for example, because she has been tortured and warped by
the villains to become a remorseless killer, without agency, and her
first victim was her husband. You can think something is in poor taste
and vocalize it in your personal spaces, I’ve done that plenty. (Yep,
still gonna side-eye rape jokes, still not sorry.)But not in the
ship tags, and understand no one has to stop because of personal
comfort zones. This can be a hard lesson, but try to freaking learn it.
What you can do is protect yourself. You can block tags. You can
block users. You can not go trawling in tags you dislike ( which I know
for a fact these sorry sacks do on a regular basis anyway, because they
simply thrive on bullying ). In the case of something that is actually
illegal, or at least against Tumblr’s TOS, you can report it to Staff
and let them deal with it.
I’m not your parent, I’m not your
punching bag, and if you want to cry when the shit you try to fling at
me ricochets in your face, best you step off in the first place, maybe?
btw:
I ship it.
I can’t believe this shit needs to keep being said but I guess so long as there are abusive assholes - and yes, that’s what you people are, no matter what other layers you might have, you are abusive fucking assholes - this will need to be repeated, loud and long, from the fucking rooftops.
How much of an obtuse scumbag do you have to be to be ‘glad someone is dead’ over a fucking fictional ship.
ALl of your wonderful Pewey work helps me to ignore the haters. Thank you very much. I love Pewey because of fans like you who make the most beautiful pieces of work for it.
I’m glad my work helps! But I know these bullies make it difficult–their abuse finally wore me down in the end, and I needed to move away from SU altogether for a while. But I’m back, and it feels good again!
The thing you have to remember with these bullies is context. When they consistently say disturbing things like this:
Or this:
Or this:
–it’s a LOT easier to realize they don’t really care about erasure. They only care about what they personally don’t like, and they will walk over and talk over anyone else in the community to try to silence them. They consistently call queer shippers straight to misrepresent the argument. They call bisexuality an “excuse for shipping someone with a man”. They refuse to consider Amethyst taking male forms is representation, because it isn’t representation they want to see. (On a personal note, the weird double standard of saying “you’re not a lesbian like me, so you can’t defend yourself when I call yourself a lesbophobe, BUT LET ME TELL YOU HOW THIS SHIT I’M SAYING IS NOT BIPHOBIC AT ALL” is another tipoff that they don’t think these things through.)
They’ve attacked the Crewniverse themselves for ships. Hell, even Rebecca Sugar’s and Ian Jones-Quartey’s relationship wasn’t off-limits–when it was revealed they have been together for many years, the disappointment that she “needed to find a girl” instead of respecting who she does love made me feel sick.
“If you wait to tell kids, to tell queer youth that it matters how they feel or that they are even a person, then it is going to be too late. You have to let it be what it gets to be for everyone….You are told that you should dream about love, this fulfilling love that you are going to have….like the Prince and Snow White are not someones parents. They are something you want to be and are dreaming of a future where you will find happiness Why shouldn’t everyone have that? It’s really absurd to think that everyone shouldn’t get to have that.”
Queer. Every letter in the acronym. Everyone. Not this gatekeeping bullshit that anti-shipping bullies hypocritically and abusively try to enforce. We are encouraged, all of us, to find ourselves in these wonderful queer characters.
Steven Universe is meant for us all. It’s the bullies who need to step off.
So I was RPing in OpenCanvas with Sunshine, where Pearl was seeking advice on properly caring for growing human children and Buck Dewey gave her the wrong impression that his dad knew some stuff since Buck’s a Cool Kid and all
Suddenly I found myself sucked into shipper hell
Rude
i can’t believe you doubted my powers
oldie but a goodie. idk why but mayor dewey was pretty much the only su character I felt comfortable rping lol
SU rp that happened. Dewey got kidnapped and was shot into space with Peridot. Named one of the gumball robots Tom, and was curious why there were no bathrooms in any of the cells.
I personally hope think the Peri-nya was foreshadowing! Purple Puma and Persian Green? No idea! All I know is genderfluid Amethyst is my fave and I need more.
people headcanoning dewey as a widower so they can insist his character is deep, sympathetic and likable when none of those things are remotely rooted in the show
and then have a convenient excuse to hook him up with pearl
holy passive aggressiveness batman!
God this is the exact shit Amber Rogers was talking about. People are so quick to jump on anti-ship bullshit that don’t even bother looking at things that remotely goes against what they like before they talk shit about it..
I’m not gonna beat around the bush, I know what comic you’re bitching bout. Let’s see, Dewey as a widower huh? Let’s look at the comic again.
Widower?
yeah obvious child Dewey and a mother’s day card yep sure implying his wife died.
If you bothered to read it at all, its a comic about Dewey and Pearl talking of parallels of loss (Rose Quartz and DEWEY’S MOTHER) and gain (Buck and Steven). They have so much in common its like they’re–
–oh yeah. I know Anti Pewey shippers are gunning hard at whatever they see but damn lol. I guess you have SOMETHING in common with Pearl.
Speaking of basis in canon, how about that Ponnie huh :)
i’m pretty sure this has been done before but here we are
pedophilia : child/adult. often in nsfw works. younger character usually “aged up” to justify. illegal & imoral.
popular ships: billdip, mabill, rickmorty,
erasure : shipping canonically homoromantic/aromantic/etc. characters with people not falling under their romantic attraction. takes away already small amount of representation queer people get in media.
popular ships : pewey, gregpearl.
abuse: relationships with unhealthy dynamic, and treatment of romantic partner that is damaging for either.
popular ships: japis, billdip, mabill
“abusiveshipping”, what a nice, unbiased username. I can tell you are honestly trying to be helpful and lead us poor, misguided shippers in the Pewey tag to salvation.
Maybe you haven’t watched Steven Universe, but the character Pearl’s sexuality has never been stated in the canon material. We only know that she loved Rose Quartz. You know who else could love Rose Quartz?
A hell of a lot more sexualities than just lesbian.
If you want to talk erasure, let’s talk about the spammers in the Pewey tag erasing real life people over headcanons. Let’s talk about the fact real people, who are also part of the LGBTA+ community, get told on a daily basis that our very existence is lesbophobic.
Let’s talk about my best friend, who is ace, being told her platonic headcanons make her “bland”.
I wonder if you want to. No other hate tagger ever has. They are too concerned with fiction and dismissing us as straight bigots.
Ironically, you want to know the only erasure that did happen canonly in Steven Universe?
“You’re just a phase. You know that, right?”
That’s right. Pearl, erasing Rose Quartz’s attraction to Greg.
Ain’t it funny how the world works.
hey all these points are valid and all just,,,, not very relevant to this. like yeah, people shouldn’t be rude and erase your identities, but ? that has nothing to do with this. in canon so far, pearl has strictly shown attraction to females. she rejects mayor dewey’s advances and is frankly grossed out by them? i don’t understand why you would think the dynamic would be healthy either, or how either of them could be happy.
“Not very relevant to this”? I guessed right, all you give a damn about is your interpretation of a fictional character, not how the antis are abusing the real people in the tag, and not interested in the fact Pearl’s unconfirmed sexuality allows us other queer headcanons. So let’s go to what you do call relevant, since you obviously haven’t watched the show:
Pearl has never “rejected his advances”. You know why? Because he’s never canonly made any. Not in all two of the direct interactions they’ve had with each other. Mayor Dewey is like any other character in this show, with good points and bad, at least try to accuse the character of things he actually did.
Interaction #1: Political Power
“The hot one”? That was said to Steven. Pearl was not even at the door. He quickly composed himself the moment she arrived. If you’re another one of those tired-ass taggers who object to that, I hope you’ve never, ever, and I mean EVER, tried to make contact with someone you found attractive, nor ever had lingering thoughts on why they look good to you, nor ever gotten flustered in their presence because you like them, because glass houses and stones, and the rancid hypocrisy this particular group of anti tag spammers are known for.
Pearl was confused and annoyed why he was so concerned she wiped out the electric for Beach City, because humans used to hunt and gather, whatever happened to that? Now, look at it closely.
“Oh, don’t be dramatic. I saw humans get on fine without power for millennia. You used to hunt and gather.”
“Whatever happened to that?”
And then Garnet made sure he knew the Gems wouldn’t be helping to clean
up the mess they made (again). Garnet brought Meat Beat Mania back to
life with an electric zap, the entire situation likely could have been defused
by the Gems right there. But they don’t get humans, and so the rest of the episode happened.
You know, the part where Steven faced the furious Beach City mob and said:
“He was just sheltering you from the truth because he (Mayor Dewey) loves you.”
Like he knows the Gems and even his father has done for him.
So one more time, in case you overlooked like before: Mayor Dewey made no advances. She was not grossed out by him. She was annoyed he was so frantic in worrying about the town, which the Crystal Gems left without power–a REASONABLE worry. And the writers emphasized that while his approach was flawed, Mayor Dewey’s love of the town was real.
On tointeraction #2, which also has been warped to fit by you hate taggers: Historical Friction.
He asked to have a seat and immediately sat down, eager to strike up a conversation. How you can call that an “advance”, I have no idea. He made no attempt to “accidentally” touch her, nor did the conversation go into pickup lines. What did happen was:
“Oooooookay.”
She’s confused, and odds are the thought he might be attracted to her never even crossed her mind, because of all the Gems, Pearl is the one who understands them the least. In any case, she shows no annoyance until the conversation gets off to a great start:
“Oh, you know, I wrote this play.”
There we go.
Not because he’s male, or even because he’s human, but because his original script SUCKED, and now he’s taking credit for HERS.
He makes no attempt to pursue her after she leaves, looking like he knows he did something wrong. Yeah, what a masher.
But once Steven tells him she was an inside source for the production
–and he thanks her honestly, without his bumbling attempts to build himself up–
“Oh, what’s 200 years between friends?”
You know, for being so grossed out by him, for being so repulsed by him, she sure had no problem not only staying there to speak cordially to him, but also touch him. And that big bad masher, the Mayor?
Yeah he got so flustered by that he made as quick an exit as he could. And she’s still smiling, relaxed, no sign of this seething ball of hate and revulsion you imply she is.
TL;DR? Your claims on his character fall flat in the face of canon. You might find your arguments will last longer if you go with fact instead of bald-faced lies.
“i don’t understand why you would think the dynamic would be healthy either, or how either of them could be happy.”
No offense, but I’m leery of taking relationship advice from a hate tagger that can’t even fucking tell the truth, because unlike the Mayor, your motives don’t have good intentions. But friendship is a crucial foundation of any long-lasting relationship, and according to Matt Burnett–
–the Mayor and Pearl have enough similarities for a shipper to ship.
So in the tossup of shippers shipping something the Crewniverse clearly has no problem with, or tag haters like you calling him a million disgusting things, and calling the shippers a million disgusting things, which do you think disappoints the creators the most?
