As per usual, shipping antis are trying to use new misinformation to bully those in the SU fandom that ship Pearl with Mayor Dewey–this time, claiming that Deedee Magno-Hall said the pair “had no chance” at Supercon. This is, of course, horseshit, twisted into a pretzel knot to suit their needs.

So here are facts to counter any fresh abuse!

So, it’s not a condemnation, nor a confirmation–as ever, Rebecca’s stance of “please pair everyone with everyone else, don’t stop 0_0″ holds. (Although it’s really interesting how Deedee completely dunks the classic anti lines of “PEARL HATES MEN”  and “DEWEY HITTING ON HER MAKES HER UNCOMFORTABLE”, even though she could ultimately give no official answers. Antis’ll conveniently forget that, I’ll bet. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) But hey! Deedee echoed what a lot of shippers have theorized–Pearl just doesn’t understand humans!)

You’d think if the idea was as terrible as the antis say it is, there would be an actual condemnation, that she’d parrot at least some of the tired tripe they do. Civic duty, amirite? Funny how she didn’t. It’s almost like anti shit doesn’t stick outside their own cliques. (and seriously, at least one of them was running TWO concurrent hateblogs about this. I’m beginning to wonder just how many of them there really are.)

Pearl IS a lesbian. Like… obviously. Ship what you want, at the end of the day I really do not care, but it’s just the sarcastic few comments at the end that bug me. Lesbians have a hard enough time in the media as it is, so stop trying to erase them further like this.
I will repeat, if you ship Pewey or whatever, I literally do not care, but the sarcastic comments at the end, just trying to bait someone into getting mad at you is just.. unnecessary. Pearl is very obviously a lesbian, and you can ship what you want, and I agree with this post that you should not bully people for what they like, especially not fictional ships for a cartoon. But this whole post is screaming “Ooo I’m saying she’s not a lesbian, what you gonna do about it?” and it’s not needed.

No one is saying “ooo, what are you going to do about it”. I have been abused over this ship, friends of mine have been abused over this ship, I’ve lost count how many times I’ve been called straight, how many times shippers have been called a million despicable things, how many times they’ve had their artwork defaced or mocked, and how many people have been suicide baited. For something anti-shippers hate so much, they trawl the tags looking for people to bully, instead of ignoring it like anyone who isn’t an asshat would. So this is  offering proof that the creators do the same thing shippers are doing, giving the shippers solid support from the Word Of God themselves.  If you don’t want an argument? Don’t start one.

It isn’t my fault the typical anti-shipper argument consists of saying the same shit over and over again like it was fact (sometimes just making shit up), even though the creators themselves counter it.

Sarcasm? Forgive me (not really) that I have zero respect for bullies and liars, and sometimes it shows. No one but these abusive assholes are telling anyone what they can and can’t ship. This never even came up until the shipping tags were flooded with harassment, until people started getting anon hate, until multiple hate blogs devoted to abusing subscribers of the tags popped up. That interview was already being used to tell shippers bald-faced lies. Where’s the concern over misinformation? Where were you when one of the lesbian shippers in the tag was called a fake lesbian? Where were you all the times I was called straight?

You keep saying “obviously” when very “obviously” the Crewniverse has drawn the same thing, including Rebecca Sugar herself. So….why do they do it? Are they, in an official capacity, erasing their own creations? Is it “obvious” because of Rose, even though other sexualities could be devoted to Rose the same way? What was Rose before Earth? Are you saying Steven Universe is a tale of a lesbian “changed by the right man”? (Although there was an anti-shipper who pulled a really gross theory about that from their ass, in the name of ridding Steven Universe of all the other lesser letters of the LGBTIA. Mmm, gotta get those dirty bisexuals out of our show, they aren’t ~*~pure~*~.)

Or maybe the creators want everyone to see themselves in the show, and the characters, and have fun with that. Even dirty bisexuals like me, who clearly just need an “excuse” to ship two characters I enjoy together.

You have your lesbian Pearl. I have my bisexual Pearl. I don’t shit on your lawn, you don’t shit on mine. How’s that for a deal? I was already keeping up my end of it, but that wasn’t good enough for these bullies.

Hey Tara remember when the show only had a few episodes and I rped Dewey a short while and that’s what started the ship for us way before the ‘hot one’ scene happened? That was fun.

Time to top off this fresh wave of bullshit with some fun facts about the charming hypocrites trolling this tag, now in convenient BULLET POINT FORM!

• The antis lie about the shippers here every time. Every time. They erase real identities over a fictional character. Although many shippers here are members of the LGBTQIA community (by the way, notice how the community is more than just one letter? I know! I was shocked too!) and are shipping another queer headcanon, the antis call them str8s or imply they are nothing more than heterosexual bigots, because nothing spells out reason and logic like a good strawman argument. Even the lesbian shippers here have been called liars and traitors. Can you imagine that shit? It’s too complex for antis to tell the truth when a David and Goliath narrative is so much more sympathetic to their bullying. It’s too complex to consider there are more letters in the community besides L. It’s WAY too complex for them to realize that they are the ones doing the erasing. But they don’t like a fictional pairing, so they’re allowed, I guess.

• The antis never admit that the creators of the show have drawn Pearl with men before, because it makes a bisexual or pan headcanon perfectly plausible, and absolutely nothing, not logic, not another viewpoint, and surely not even the show’s own creators, shall impede their “because I said so.” Kinda how they will never accept Amethyst as genderfluid. They just keep screaming PEARL IS A LESBIAN in response to any other headcanon, the equivalent of a small, temperamental child throwing their hands over their ears and going, “LA LA LA CAN’T HEAR YOU LA LA LA!,” because anything else is str8 and gross. It can’t possibly be another marginalized identity enjoying a headcanon of their own. Or maybe it’s the bisexuals that they have a problem with? Anyone official who drew it obviously doesn’t work on the show anymore because they’re a dirty het, even though one is a actually a current writer, one is Rebecca Sugar herself, and the official blog reblogged the third with the tag of #waifu and called it “awesomely cute”. It’s like the creators know something the antis don’t. Shocking.
  

• The antis, conversely, have absolutely no problem with headcanoning a canonly confirmed bisexual character as lesbian, because even if the writers show the character as enthusiastically interested in multiple genders, it could still be the compulsory heterosexuality somewhere outside the box, in the world of headcanon. No mobbing required for those headcanons. Only headcanoning an unconfirmed character who has been drawn with multiple genders is a clear act of erasure. Because they said so. And oh, how they will abuse you in that pretend person’s name.
  

• The antis, in an effort to show that they don’t really have a problem with The Bisexuals, will trot out a bisexual who agrees with them, as a checkmate, like That One White Guy Who Totally Isn’t Racist Because He Has A Black Friend. But when lesbian shippers come forward, suddenly those lesbians do not speak for ALL lesbians. Or, again, they accuse them of being Fake Lesbians ™.
  

• The antis will attack anyone they see bodyshaming characters with a righteous fury, except they do it themselves with Mayor Dewey all the time. Scratch that to “attack anyone they see bodyshaming characters they like”, I s’pose. It’s not hypocrisy then! Somehow.
  

• The antis whine about being “dehumanized” while doing all of this if they are ever called out on it. Like this post. This post be called dehumanizing. hey all these points are valid and all just,,,, not very relevant to this. like yeah, people shouldn’t be rude and erase your identities, but ? that has nothing to do with this. in canon so far, pearl has strictly shown attraction to females. she rejects mayor dewey’s advances and is frankly grossed out by them? i don’t understand why you would think the dynamic would be healthy either, or how either of them could be happy.

“Not very relevant to this”? I guessed right, all you give a damn about is your interpretation of a fictional character, not how the antis are abusing the real people in the tag, and not interested in the fact Pearl’s unconfirmed sexuality allows us other queer headcanons. So let’s go to what you do call relevant, since you obviously haven’t watched the show:

Pearl has never “rejected his advances”. You know why? Because he’s never canonly made any. Not in all two of the direct interactions they’ve had with each other. Mayor Dewey is like any other character in this show, with good points and bad, at least try to accuse the character of things he actually did.

Interaction #1: Political Power

“The hot one”? That was said to Steven. Pearl was not even at the door. He quickly composed himself the moment she arrived. If you’re another one of those tired-ass taggers who object to that, I hope you’ve never, ever, and I mean EVER, tried to make contact with someone you found attractive, nor ever had lingering thoughts on why they look good to you, nor ever gotten flustered in their presence because you like them, because glass houses and stones, and the rancid hypocrisy this particular group of anti tag spammers are known for.

Pearl was confused and annoyed why he was so concerned she wiped out the electric for Beach City, because humans used to hunt and gather, whatever happened to that? Now, look at it closely.

“Oh, don’t be dramatic. I saw humans get on fine without power for millennia. You used to hunt and gather.”

“Whatever happened to that?”

And then Garnet made sure he knew the Gems wouldn’t be helping to clean up the mess they made (again). Garnet brought Meat Beat Mania back to life with an electric zap, the entire situation likely could have been defused by the Gems right there. But they don’t get humans, and so the rest of the episode happened.

You know, the part where Steven faced the furious Beach City mob and said:

“He was just sheltering you from the truth because he (Mayor Dewey) loves you.”

Like he knows the Gems and even his father has done for him.

So one more time, in case you overlooked like before: Mayor Dewey made no advances. She was not grossed out by him. She was annoyed he was so frantic in worrying about the town, which the Crystal Gems left without power–a REASONABLE worry. And the writers emphasized that while his approach was flawed, Mayor Dewey’s love of the town was real.

On to interaction #2, which also has been warped to fit by you hate taggers:  Historical Friction.

He asked to have a seat and immediately sat down, eager to strike up a conversation. How you can call that an “advance”, I have no idea. He made no attempt to “accidentally” touch her, nor did the conversation go into pickup lines. What did happen was:

“Oooooookay.”

She’s confused, and odds are the thought he might be attracted to her never even crossed her mind, because of all the Gems, Pearl is the one who understands them the least. In any case, she shows no annoyance until the conversation gets off to a great start:

“Oh, you know, I wrote this play.”

There we go.

Not because he’s male, or even because he’s human, but because his original script SUCKED, and now he’s taking credit for HERS.

He makes no attempt to pursue her after she leaves, looking like he knows he did something wrong. Yeah, what a masher.

But once Steven tells him she was an inside source for the production

–and he thanks her honestly, without his bumbling attempts to build himself up–

“Oh, what’s 200 years between friends?”

You know, for being so grossed out by him, for being so repulsed by him, she sure had no problem not only staying there to speak cordially to him, but also touch him. And that big bad masher, the Mayor?

Yeah he got so flustered by that he made as quick an exit as he could. And she’s still smiling, relaxed, no sign of this seething ball of hate and revulsion you imply she is.

TL;DR? Your claims on his character fall flat in the face of canon. You might find your arguments will last longer if you go with fact instead of bald-faced lies.

No offense, but I’m leery of taking relationship advice from a hate tagger that can’t even fucking tell the truth, because unlike the Mayor, your motives don’t have good intentions. But friendship is a crucial foundation of any long-lasting relationship, and according to Matt Burnett–

–the Mayor and Pearl have enough similarities for a shipper to ship.

And Ben Levin, another of the writers–

–has no problem entertaining a “what-if”.

Mayor Dewey is voiced by Joel Hodgson of Mystery Science Theater 3000 fame, he even seems to be visually inspired by him, and Rebecca Sugar is a huge fan of his.

So in the tossup of shippers shipping something the Crewniverse clearly has no problem with, or tag haters like you calling him a million disgusting things, and calling the shippers a million disgusting things, which do you think disappoints the creators the most?
