Pearl IS a lesbian. Like… obviously. Ship what you want, at the end of the day I really do not care, but it’s just the sarcastic few comments at the end that bug me. Lesbians have a hard enough time in the media as it is, so stop trying to erase them further like this.
I will repeat, if you ship Pewey or whatever, I literally do not care, but the sarcastic comments at the end, just trying to bait someone into getting mad at you is just.. unnecessary. Pearl is very obviously a lesbian, and you can ship what you want, and I agree with this post that you should not bully people for what they like, especially not fictional ships for a cartoon. No one is saying “ooo, what are you going to do about it”. I have been abused over this ship, friends of mine have been abused over this ship, I’ve lost count how many times I’ve been called straight, how many times shippers have been called a million despicable things, how many times they’ve had their artwork defaced or mocked, and how many people have been suicide baited. For something anti-shippers hate so much, they trawl the tags looking for people to bully, instead of ignoring it like anyone who isn’t an asshat would. So this is  offering proof that the creators do the same thing shippers are doing, giving the shippers solid support from the Word Of God themselves.  If you don’t want an argument? Don’t start one.

It isn’t my fault the typical anti-shipper argument consists of saying the same shit over and over again like it was fact (sometimes just making shit up), even though the creators themselves counter it.

You keep saying “obviously” when very “obviously” the Crewniverse has drawn the same thing, including Rebecca Sugar herself. So….why do they do it? Are they, in an official capacity, erasing their own creations? Is it “obvious” because of Rose, even though other sexualities could be devoted to Rose the same way? What was Rose before Earth? Are you saying Steven Universe is a tale of a lesbian “changed by the right man”? (Although there was an anti-shipper who pulled a really gross theory about that from their ass, in the name of ridding Steven Universe of all the other lesser letters of the LGBTIA. Mmm, gotta get those dirty bisexuals out of our show, they aren’t ~*~pure~*~.)

Or maybe the creators want everyone to see themselves in the show, and the characters, and have fun with that. Even dirty bisexuals like me, who clearly just need an “excuse” to ship two characters I enjoy together.

You have your lesbian Pearl. I have my bisexual Pearl. I don’t shit on your lawn, you don’t shit on mine. How’s that for a deal? I was already keeping up my end of it, but that wasn’t good enough for these bullies.

Hey Tara remember when the show only had a few episodes and I rped Dewey a short while and that’s what started the ship for us way before the ‘hot one’ scene happened? That was fun.

I don’t know how such a large chunk of the Steven Universe fandom can apparently be so horrible and toxic when love and acceptance and forgiveness is such a huge theme of the show. I get it, it’s kind of a gross ship and you don’t have to like it, but what the hell, guys? How can you honestly value a fictional character over a real person? How is one person’s weird ship hurting you personally?

This is the fourth time that I am aware of in the Steven Universe fandom that these so called “anti-shippers” have done this.

“Fiction affects reality”, is what the so-called “anti-shippers” always say. The thing there is, if fiction affects reality in the absolute way they claim–which they typically “source” with studies that have nothing to do with that statement at all–why are there any problems in the world? Does the the children’s programming we watched when we were young not magically solve them all?

No, because people have their own agency. Decisions to harm others are the individual’s responsibility, not a character’s, not a show’s, not a book’s, and sure as hell not a fandom ship’s.  The alarming habit they’ve developed of attacking mostly other minors with accusations of terrible crimes, collecting “receipts” on them, running hateblogs to torment them, does FAR more damage than a work of fiction. The rise in suicide attempts among creatives in certain fandoms is directly the result of this abuse. And make no mistake, what the anti-shippers do is textbook abuse. That some of them are survivors is not a free damn pass, we all have the chance of becoming abusers ourselves. I’m a survivor also, and I haven’t felt so backed in a corner since my abuser was still in my life, as I did coming under fire from them. (For a bisexual headcanon. A bi woman, with a bisexual headcanon? YOU DON’T SAY.)

They only ever briefly show regret when the spotlight is on their abusive behavior, when someone almost kills themselves because of them and their rabid obsession of ships they don’t like. “God, I hope they’re okay” they said, more than once, wringing their pearls, when they did not give a shit about the person they tormented to the limit until the moment that THEY were in trouble for doing so.

And when they are confronted for it, boohoo, suddenly they’re being attacked.

It needs to stop before one of these suicide attempts is successful.

A lot of them advocate self-diagnosis, looking at their Abouts and whatnot. Which is whatever, you know yourself best, your choice. But just like they claim a psychologist isn’t qualified to diagnose them, what makes them think they are qualified to diagnose strangers on the internet?

“Because I don’t like thing” seems to be their answer, and it’s a piss-poor one.

Then there’s the depths of their gross bi/panphobia, and bigotry against other sexualities, for the sake of the precious fictional ships they approve of. I’ve been called straight by these shitheads more times than I can count anymore.

All this, over fiction. The only “fiction affects reality” that I see are these people becoming bullies in a fictional ship’s name, and that is still all on them, not the fiction they are crusading for.

You can dislike seeing some things, it’s natural. I’m uncomfortable with any ship involving Overwatch’s Widowmaker, for example, because she has been tortured and warped by the villains to become a remorseless killer, without agency, and her first victim was her husband. You can think something is in poor taste and vocalize it in your personal spaces, I’ve done that plenty. (Yep, still gonna side-eye rape jokes, still not sorry.) But not in the ship tags, and understand no one has to stop because of personal comfort zones. This can be a hard lesson, but try to freaking learn it. What you can do is protect yourself. You can block tags. You can block users. You can not go trawling in tags you dislike ( which I know for a fact these sorry sacks do on a regular basis anyway, because they simply thrive on bullying ). In the case of something that is actually illegal, or at least against Tumblr’s TOS, you can report it to Staff and let them deal with it.

I’m not your parent, I’m not your punching bag, and if you want to cry when the shit you try to fling at me ricochets in your face, best you step off in the first place, maybe?

Bi people CAN and SHOULD talk about their experiences within and outside of the community. No one’s kicking bisexuals out. What people are asking is for bisexual people not to bring their opposite sex partners to pride parades, and yes in general that means a cis man + cis woman couple, the kind that’s accepted and has rights everywhere in the world?? Because yes pride is one of the few times a year where people in same-sex couples can safely be together in public so bringing your het partner there who you are in a socially accepted relationship with IS fucking insensitive. Look, asexual people are not heterosexual. They may be sex-positive heteroromantic, but the fact is that heterosexuality is about sexual attraction to members of the opposite sex, homosexuality is about sexual attraction to members of the same sex and asexuality is about not having sexual attraction. They may engage in sex, and they still physically respond, but the drive is not there.

I am not trying to belittle the biphobia in the queer community. And I think that bi/pan people should be able to bring their significant others to Pride, because while the A in LGBTQA does not stand for ‘ally’, allies are still important. But this post started being about ace people, and that got dropped in favour of the struggle against biphobia.

Both are problematic in similar but incredibly distinct ways, and at the end of the day, it comes down to this: PASSING AS STRAIGHT IS NOT A PRIVILEGE. Asexual people are not heterosexual just because they’re not sexually attracted to their own gender. Because they’re not sexually attracted to the opposite gender either.

We are not ‘straight’. We may be heteroromatic, biromantic, panromantic, homoromantic, but the -sexuality part of heterosexuality and homosexuality is still a part of the word. And just because someone - bi, ace, whatever - can pass as a cis het person doesn’t mean we’re ‘not queer enough’.

Aces have been told their entire lives they are broken. It was listed as a mental illness until recently. They have faced corrective rape, and abuse, and trying to fit a mold instead of being respected for who they are–does any of this sound familiar?
