Basically a brony radio station has began the voting of the golden muffin awards and like predicted pinkiepony and down with molestia is on the list.
I expect them…
hey arationalbrony you never responded to my last post to you :(
If i can point out something, online activism will not work, since lets face it: tumblr does not have a far reaching influence on the internet like reddit, like facebook, or like twitter. furthermore, if i can point out something: online activism wont work. what will work is going outside. help out in shelters for abused women and children, donate to RAINN, educate the young that its not acceptable to rape. I know its hard to get off the computer and actually do something, but in the long run people (mostly the yong men of the generation) will realize its wrong.
It doesn’t work, really. It’s right on RAINN’s website in the link. In big bold letters. At the top.
Instagram Retires #RapeFace after Hearing from RAINN Supporters
Opposing something DOES raise awareness of why something is wrong. It does educate, and it does provide support to survivors who have to suffer lel-mindless-rape-joke bullshit right and left online because thoughtless people think rape is a subject that can be sexy and funny at the expense of the victims.
Sometimes people just don’t want to learn, though. So, here is RAINN telling you it matters. Are you saying the only way you’re going to believe it is if it’s not online? Suddenly, magically, the language changes if it’s in real life? Suddenly, magically, you become a completely different person at the keyboard?
If you would correct someone for a rape “joke” in real life, why wouldn’t you do it online?
Are you saying they are wrong because it is inconvenient to you?
Here, I’ll even post the other quote they have on the page, since it looks like actually doing research is too much for you.
“Words are powerful. Words have consequences. When a word like rape is used as a joke, it trivializes sexual assault.”
You want to believe money is all that matters in this. It’s easier that way, I’m sure. But it’s not true. You also have to change minds, and you do that by talking. EVERYWHERE you go.You cant change culture over night, going after people online for being dickheads wont change this “rape culture”. Shit like this takes time. If you just sit on your tumblr and complain to some retard without a mind it will be a perpetual cycle. Now, if you actually try to educate in the real world people will listen. if you do it with dignity and class they will listen.
Money alone wont solve it, but that money can be spent with flyers, leaflets, commercials, actually getting people to the schools to teach children its wrong.
I know im going to get shit for this but: its just words online from idiots, if you try to stop EVERYONE joking about rape this will never end.
Basically: tell them the why, not the what
rational
You are literally using the internet to try to educate people about how using the internet to educate others is ineffective. Doesn’t sound too rational to me. To make it clear here, you said internet activism won’t work and that it won’t educate people on these issues.
The internet is such a powerful tool when it comes to educating others. If change isn’t going to come quickly (and no one said it was), then why ignore such a potent platform when it comes to educating and being an activist?
You are showing a complete bias towards “real life” activism. Look, activism outside of the internet is important and crucial for change. I understand that. But saying internet activism “won’t work” is incredibly stupid. Leaflets, eh? Yeah I know kids are fucking crazy about leaflets these days. That’s why they’re not spending a majority their time on the internet anymore. It’s also why students never use the internet to write papers for their education. Oh no wait. They are on the internet practically all the time and using a paper source is considered a chore.
You know what? Fuck RAINN’s website. Make people go to their local RAINN center to get pamphlets and make their donations. Now that’s what I call easy accessibility. You need a help hotline number now? Well too fucking bad, someone said the internet was useless in activism and education. And you’d be a fool to use the internet to get directions to those real life places, because it can’t educate you. Having a website is pointless. It’s not increasing their visibility or the causes visibility at all.
Your logic doesn’t get better either. Complaining to some idiot on the internet will just perpetuate the problem? Yes. Pointing out problematic behavior will cause the behavior to perpetuate itself. Don’t point out problems. Just ignore it and it will go away. But don’t forget to educate. But totally don’t point anything problematic out. That’s essentially what you just said. I’ve never heard more logic in my life.
What you see as “complaining” is actually calling somebody out on problematic behavior. It’s not some instant gratification shit that you’ve implied it is. And you know what’s an incredible tool to call out problematic behaviors with? The internet. It is a relatively safe space where one’s immediate physical safety isn’t endangered because you’re behind a computer and it helps that it offers varying degrees of anonymity. It also enables you to spread awareness at the same time you’re calling out problematic behavior. But the internet’s a worthless tool for educating and activism.
Dignity and class, eh? Most people’s definition of dignity and class when it comes to activism usually involves coddling those exhibiting shitty behaviors and attitudes. Don’t fucking make them feel bad for it. No, the greatest change will never come from using people’s desire for acceptance to change their shitty behaviors.
You know what needs to happen? People need to be held accountable for their actions. There need to be consequences coming for other people. If you say something shitty I’m going to let it be known and you should feel bad and other people should make you feel like it’s a bad thing too. The internet isn’t a magical place free of those social consequences. So don’t act like it is.
You are literally using the internet to try to educate people about how using the internet to educate others is...
You cant change culture over night, going after people online for being dickheads wont change this “rape culture”. Shit...
b-but the internet isn’t real that’s why I’m allowed to be racist and sexist on it and not get in trouble!! ;w; stop...
