As per usual, shipping antis are trying to use new misinformation to bully those in the SU fandom that ship Pearl with Mayor Dewey–this time, claiming that Deedee Magno-Hall said the pair “had no chance” at Supercon. This is, of course, horseshit, twisted into a pretzel knot to suit their needs.

So here are facts to counter any fresh abuse!

DMH: I am not at liberty to answer that question. Next! No, I’m kidding! Honestly, I, uh, because I am simply the voice of Pearl, I have nothing to do with creation of the show, that’s up to Rebecca and the team. So honestly, I think that Pearl is completely oblivious to Mayor Dewey’s affection towards her. I mean, that’s what I think. I mean, what do you guys think?

DMH: Does she know? What do you think? Does she know? Is she toying with him? She doesn’t care, she’s like “uh, whatever”?

So, it’s not a condemnation, nor a confirmation–as ever, Rebecca’s stance of “please pair everyone with everyone else, don’t stop 0_0″ holds. (Although it’s really interesting how Deedee completely dunks the classic anti lines of “PEARL HATES MEN”  and “DEWEY HITTING ON HER MAKES HER UNCOMFORTABLE”, even though she could ultimately give no official answers. Antis’ll conveniently forget that, I’ll bet. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) But hey! Deedee echoed what a lot of shippers have theorized–Pearl just doesn’t understand humans!)

You’d think if the idea was as terrible as the antis say it is, there would be an actual condemnation, that she’d parrot at least some of the tired tripe they do. Civic duty, amirite? Funny how she didn’t. It’s almost like anti shit doesn’t stick outside their own cliques. (and seriously, at least one of them was running TWO concurrent hateblogs about this. I’m beginning to wonder just how many of them there really are.)

If that doesn’t dissuade the antis, a friendly reminder that the Crewniverse themselves have NO trouble pairing Pearl with men.

LMAO I was there in the first row in that panel. And when she answered I saw some people’s grins FALL when Deedee didn’t say “No” or “She hates men” And honestly it was hilarious to see them be disappointed 😂😂

Now some of them are trying to spin it to fit what they wanted anyway, or just aggressively ignoring it. I have no idea how they fool themselves with clapping their hands over their ears like that.  No matter what they say, no matter how many times they say it, no matter how they make shit up and pretend, at the end of the day–reality is that the Crewniverse has drawn Pearl with men, Rebecca Sugar encourages shipping all the things, and that interview dunked their whole “Pearl hates men” spiel even though they were likely fishing for ammunition to harass shippers further. That’s Word Of God over a bunch of abusive asshats yowling with no arguments to counter it, except “ANYWAYS” and a lot of thinly-veiled bigotry.

Reality is, other queer headcanons are welcomed, what a concept.
