( Headcanon time! The Mayor was very much a product of his times and didn’t understand himself and his own attractions until much, much later in his life. He is proud and relieved to see Buck have the chance to not be afraid to know himself growing up, and supports him fully. The mayor also didn’t want to be in the family business. He wanted to be an astronaut when he was little! He tries his best not to pressure Buck the way he was pressured by his own father.

TL;DR: Smoll son and toll son have the best well-meaning nerdy dads )
