How working on Black Friday went

Back from Black Friday shift. Things went better than expected!

Beth and Dash sat downstairs with my for a half hour before I left, so that was nice. (Wasn’t awake for thanksgiving meal so I’m thankful I got to talk to them a bit before I left.)

The big TV sale started just as my shift started, so it was completely crowded. I had to park in the complete opposite tail end of the parking lot over by Petsmart.

3rd shift was told to zone (clean, make sure shelves are neat, move items where they belong) as best they could til we were called again.

Normally I do the coffee/hot chocolate/ Peanut Butter/Jelly aisle so the other areas I’m not so familiar with, and all the sale flyers were gone so knowledge of where all the black friday sale items and what deals were available were limited.

So basically 99% of the time if you asked a random 3rd shift  associate where a specific sale item was, the answer would be “sorry, I’m not sure” until stuff was condensed down.

5 minutes in, I got flagged to hold the keys for electronics and was stuck there 3 hours. I was on average flagged constantly by 1-3 questions at a time. Managed  to help a few customers out with some new games I was familiar with, dug out a 360 for a lady from the back (last one, whoo.) and finally got more familiar with the sale items after a short while. Chaotic, but everyone was pretty understanding and patient with me.

Around midnight I got called to stock the coffee aisle but not much would go out, specially since two areas that had kuerig cups were in the back to make room for the event displays.

Grocery side finished pretty early so asked a manager if any area needed help in particular, helped out in Health&Beauty a bit. Zoned hours, ran around helping cashiers with returns, and ended up in toys.

I ended up re-aranging the monster high section and straightening it up a bit. It was too terrible but a lot of items weren’t matched with the right UPC code so I fixed that up. I found a 13 wishes Gigi Grant shoved in the back, and mused I’d buy her if she was still there as a birthday gift to myself.

After I ran a few more errands with returns, I came back to see how toys were and there was a mom and daughter with a cart FULL of Monster High stuff.

Apparently the mom was buying for her two younger daughters who weren’t there and loved monster high and knew most the characters so I offered to help out. I managed to find half the things on their list and helped them with a few other brands too and they left super happy, which was awesome. I clocked out, Gigi was still there and…

She was only $3.50.

I was so happy I honestly couldn’t stop smiling and I didn’t feel as much pain in my legs in the long walk back to the car.

Currently eating leftover thanksgiving food my awesome as hell roomie Beth cooked. :>
