still one of my favorite artbooks.

Favorite game: exhibit A

I have this art book! I carried it around everywhere during high school.

I both love and hate this artbook, because of how it’s done. There’s giant images of boring things like Vivi’s staves from mid-game, yet tiny concept sketches and paintings of areas like shown at the bottom, which are very detailed and hard to see in a two-inch picture. Each character only gets a few images (this is including the Amano paintings), and the Eidolons are limited to four scattered among the monster art: Ifrit, Odin, Atropos and Fenrir…but not actual Fenrir but the stupid wolf-shaped rock that Fenrir summons out of the ground to punch things (Fenrir was a blue and white wolf in FF9). The only section of the book that was done well was the vehicle section, which included 3D renders and concept sketches for each airship and boat.

It’s like whomever was in charge of assembling the book didn’t understand the things that people would find interesting, so they thought that devoting the monster section to dumb monsters like Gimme Cats and Hornets and having ten pages devoted to weapons versus seven for Amano’s artwork was a good idea.

um excuse you but how can you not appreciate this majestic creature
