I don’t know why I enjoyed this scene so much. It was sad, but seeing Discord’s magic in raw form was very interesting to me.
this scene, though… literally Discord’s magic, magic he’s known for, magic that was all he used to have, is being stolen from him. It’s fitting that he gave Twilight her key, since Twilight’s the element of magic and Discord’s known for his magic.
I hadn’t thought of that! This is true.
The parallel Discord gave up friends for power, Twilight gave up her power for her friends.

Hm, thinking some more. Nothing solid, just musing to myself.
Word that keeps coming up in the sketches and rps with Tara for both Discord, Scorpan and Tirek is “Monster,” with emphasis on identity.
Choices between forcefully taking and changing the rules to only fit you, or sacrificing how you act to fit someone else’s.
Tirek seeing anything else as an enemy and against him, further emphasized by his brother betraying him and befriending a pony.
To him, Discord is just as weak and not worth trusting since he already befriended a pony as well. Discord sacrificed who he was originally to become friends with them and was easily swayed, only really proving Tirek’s point.
Discord, having a similar past of imprisonment to a degree can emphasize and understand Tirek’s words of freedom. Reformed Discord cannot express himself fully like he used to. (Problem being both of them were harmful in how they did that.)
Tirek refuses to be “ruled” by any sort of friendship. It is weakness, and he used it against Discord AND Twilight.

*just a note* I'm not trying to critizise your opinion at all btw ;u; I really didn't mean to offend! I was just saying that you seemed to overlook that Discord never really learned the lesson fully due to the others being massive dicks towards him as well. (Even in three is a crowd, though he was annoying as hell, even in the end the only one who cared without feeling "obligated" or cohorted). BUT SRSLY tho, I didn't mean to sound snobby or anything orz
Nah, opinion is opinion and we’re both welcome to it! Apple horse in particular was pretty mean and everything, but he kinda dumped the one pony that–you know–never really doubted him. The one that originally broke him when she stopped being his friend the first time? He’s never stopped being selfish and attention seeking–so you can’t really blame them for being wary anyways.
I mean look–Applejack, the most cautious and wary of him–

–because she was trying to protect her friend. Discord did what he did because he thought Tirek was the better deal. Yeah he felt BAD about it but come on.
And in my eyes it just kinda..

cheapened what he was to supposedly learned already.
I don’t doubt in season 5 he’ll eventually befriend all 6, 2 down already. But I’m still annoyed how he was handled.
